SOURCE Statement by California Athletic Commission Chair Tim Noonan Following is a statement by Tim Noonan, Chairman of the California Athletic Commission, regarding Antonio Margarito: “The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has temporarily suspended the licenses of Antonio Margarito and his chief corner man, Javier Capetillo. The temporary suspension will remain in effect until CSAC has fully investigated the circumstances surrounding events at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 24, 2009. A foreign substance was found by California State Athletic Commission staff in the hand wraps of Antonio Margarito before his bout against Shane Mosley at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The substance found in Margarito’s hand wraps is currently being analyzed by the California Department of Justice. An investigation as to whether either licensee violated CSAC rules is ongoing. Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo have been asked to appear at an initial hearing scheduled for February 10, 2009. “The licenses of Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo were suspended pursuant to Business and Professions Code section 18842, which allows for the temporary suspension of a license when such an action is necessary to ‘protect the public welfare.’ CSAC Rule 323 limits the amount and type of gauze and tape allowed under a fighter’s boxing glove. Rule 390 allows CSAC to discipline a licensee when his or her actions are a “discredit to boxing” or violate the rules of CSAC. “Commission staff will have no further comment until such time as the Commission makes a final determination of whether licensee actions in this case warrant fines, suspensions, or the revocation of licenses. The Commission has asked Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo to appear at an initial hearing currently scheduled for February 10, 2009.” |

The fact that he would want to do something to slow his hands down against Shane Mosley proves his stupidness. The cheating bastard shouldn't be allowed to fight anytime soon. This is 3 times worse then someone getting caught for roiding. |

Definitely loss alot of respect for this guy. After hearing his background, I was happy he was getting his chance to shine. But now, with this it just leaves more and more speculation as too how many times he's pull of this tactic to beat some of the best. I would say more than a majority of his fights are tainted now. POS that can't win legit, glad he got his ass handed to him by Mosley. |

What I don't understand is the person taping his hands is a CSAC appointed official, so how are they sneaking the compound whatever it is in with the wraps. |

This IS the CSAC they haven't been the best at alot of things not to mention certain officials, and I'm with you Cruz, Its a shame they can't track all the fights where he did use this tactic and than can overrule and give him "L's" in his column, regardless I don't think this guy gets into the hall. |

Cruz ur just bitter because he beat Cotto come on buddy. anyway if this was any other state but the CSAC i would not question it at all but pretty much everything these stupid idiots have done has been wrong or corrupt in the end so i will wait until all the facts are out before i say anything about him being guilty. |

When it happened i wasn't. I was a little upset cause of how it went down but i bet money on Margacheato, money bet and won. It has nothing to do with the CSAC i'm not sure why you're questioning this. It was Mosely's corner man that spotted it when he asked them to rewrap Margacheato's hands. The CSAC is now doing the investigation. The stuff was there, they took it and sent it to be checked. It's an already known substance that hardens when wet, there's no question. All they are doing is getting it verified to determine what they should do to them then. This is one instance that the CSAC is in the right so far, they better come down hard on him because this is serious and worse than steroids like someone else said. |

Ok so now a new report read an athletic commission guy didn't like his hand wraps and made them rewrap twice more and that's when they caught the powder substance that turns hard like cement when it's wet. Mosely's corner guy was there witnessing. |
