Just thought I'd share with you guys a decent deal on an LG flatscreen...for those of you looking for one

eBay auction

It's not a 1080p obviously (it's 720p), and the refresh rate is 60hz...but for $399 with free shipping, you can't really go wrong. Besides, I don't think a single cable company in the US even broadcasts HD content above 720p at the moment. Until they all adopt switched digital video conversion (SDV) there's no chance they'll have enough bandwidth to broadcast every channel in 1080p...and that will take many years to happen.

At the moment, the only way to achieve 1080 is through blu ray. And to tell you the truth, my 20/20 vision can't even tell the difference enough to care.

Oh you can tell a difference from 1080p from 1080i/720p. The latter is still good but it's no blu ray. I don't think it's as far off for the companies to start broadcasting in 1080p as you think. Look how fast things move with technology. Those LED tvs that Samsung came out with are sick with that motion plus thing it has. We'll be watching virtual reality movies soon.

Oh you can tell a difference from 1080p from 1080i/720p.
On 40" & smaller TVs, the difference between 1080p & 1080i/720p is negligible, unless you sit on top of your TV when you watch it. The A/V forums have posted numerous studies that have come to that same conclusion. The bigger the screen gets, the more you'll be able to notice the difference. But even then, the difference between 720p & 1080 isn't nearly as big as 480p to 720p.

I'll settle for just getting every channel in HD before I start worrying about 1080p standard, which I agree with Magnum, will take a while due to current & near future bandwidth caps. I have a hard time watching the SD channels on Dish & there's some channels that have a lot of stuff I'd like to watch, like The Outdoor Channel, but they look horrible on my 42" Panny plasma.

You're right, i actually have 32" Samsung's or something in each bedroom and they are 720p because the guy told me you can't see the difference in a 30 something inch tv. But you can in the larger sizes cause i have a 47" 1080p that looks better than my 60" 1080i when i play blu rays on them.

i should have clarified, but yes, the resolution makes more of a difference on bigger screens. the said tv i was talking about is 37", thus why i implied that it wasn't a big difference. i have a 32" lcd in my bedroom that does 1080p. the difference between comcast HD (720p) on there and a blu ray disc (1080p) is barely discernible.

but anyway, full 1080p rollout is still far off from happening. the digital switchover last june is only the first phase of freeing up room for more hd channels. for now, a big problem is that 1 hd channel takes about 3-4 times the bandwidth to broadcast an SD channel. 720p is enough of a burden to broadcast with the current bandwidth limits. some cable companies are beginning to use an alternate method to compensate for the bandwidth inadequacies....it's called switched digital video, or switched video broadcast.

basically, with current cable technology, all the channels in your cable company's lineup are being broadcast at the same time to your box. this is a big inefficient waste of bandwidth...since you're only watching 1 channel at a time. some nerd developed a way to only broadcast only the 1 channel you're watching. then if you change the channel on your box, it sends a command back to your cable company which changes the channel being broadcast. again, only 1 channel is being broadcast at a time instead of all of them at once. this makes almost infinite room for HD channels in the highest resolution. the only prob is that SDV upgrading is costly since new boxes would 100% be required...thus it will take years. in the meantime, my 60" 720p is good enough.

When I first got my new TV they had Terminator 2 on one of the HD channels and even though I've seen the movie multiple times I just sat there since the picture left me speechless in how much better it was then an older styler TV.
