UFC targeting Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller for UFC 114 in Las Vegas
by Steven Marrocco and Dann Stupp on Mar 01, 2010 at 4:35 pm ET
A middleweight bout between Michael Bisping (18-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Dan Miller (11-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC), established contenders both desperately in need of a win, is likely to take place in May at UFC 114.

Multiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that UFC officials are working to sign the bout and that at least one competitor has agreed to the matchup.

If signed the fight would likely be part of the main card for UFC 114, which takes place May 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and airs on pay-per-view.

As of Monday, though, bout agreements have not been distributed.

It'd be another solid addition to a card, though not officially announced, that's expected to feature Rashad Evans vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Forrest Griffin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and John Hathaway vs. Diego Sanchez.

Both Bisping and Miller, who were both once on the verge of top title contention, look to rebound from recent losses.

Bisping's losses came to Dan Henderson (vicious knockout at UFC 100), and then after a rebound TKO win over Denis Kang at UFC 105, to Wanderlei Silva via close unanimous decision last month at UFC 110. Bisping thought he won the fight, but Silva knocked him down in the final 10 seconds of the co-main-event fight to take the final third round on the judges' cards and the decision win (via scores of 29-28).

Prior to the recent 1-2 skid, "The Ultimate Fighter 3" winner's only loss came to Rashad Evans via razor-thin split decision at UFC 78 in 2007.

Meanwhile, Miller's two consecutive losses both came via unanimous decision to top contenders Chael Sonnen (UFC 98) and Demian Maia (UFC 109). Prior to the defeats, the former IFL middleweight champion went undefeated over a 10-fight span that included UFC victories over Rob Kimmons, Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt in his first three UFC appearances.

I think this fight will go roughly about the same as Bisping/Kang. Bisping while not good enough to beat top level fighters like Hendo and Wandy is still solid enough to beat middle of the pack guys like Kang and Miller.

Dan Miller would sub Kang. You're riding Kang's overrated nuts is the problem, he has no ground game....STILL. Dan can fight in both areas.

Is that why Miller was getting worked in the standup against Maia?

I wouldn't say worked. Maia had his moments, but the problem is Kang while great on his feet would be on his back quickly. Miller probably went in thinking to box Maia and expected Maia to just try shot after shot and he didn't so that probably threw him off as well as not wanting to go down so much so that'll leave his standup D open a little more than usual. He'll sub Kang.

Dude....what?! That sounds like someone that just knows the decision, didn't see the actual fight. One card was 30-27 the other two were 29-28 meaning they gave him a round meaning EVERY moment was not Maia's. Do you remember the 3rd when his ass dropped by a right hand? The first round Maia got a couple takedowns that last half a second cause Dan popped right up but Maia also landed a couple decent shots, nothing that hurt him. The 2nd was boring as shit and you could tell up until this point Dan was fighting totally defensive of a takedown cause of his distance and stance. The 3rd round he let go of that and fought without regard to that takedown and dropped Maia and also had a couple other decent spots while they stood. Maia got it down but Dan completely nullified anything other than some baby punches Maia was throwing. He didn't have one sub attempt. Dan got closer with his one triangle attempt while on the bottom and landed a right that was harder than anything Maia landed. That was anything but a dominating performance by Maia.

What makes me laugh is you think Kang runs right over a very good wrestler with a very good sub game that can hang standing if he doesn't have to worry about a super BJJ guy getting him down. Kang would be submitted in the first round after he's put on his back within the first couple minutes.
