Fedor Emelianenko Holding Out on Strikeforce Contract?

Mar 01 9:30a by Brent Brookhouse

From SB Nation’s own Head Kick Legend:

According to M-1 Global, Strikeforce has not honored the contract that they signed with M-1 and the only way Fedor will fight in a Strikeforce cage again is if they sign a new contract. M-1 is looking for a partner and to have Strikeforce cards featuring Fedor to be fully co-promoted cards.

To put it bluntly, M-1 Global is looking at other potential partners right now if Strikeforce doesn’t shape up. Generally speaking, that does not mean there is a healthy relationship with Strikeforce and that the chances of seeing Fedor fighting outside of Strikeforce have gone up. Now, is this just them trying to scare Strikeforce into conceding to their demands or are they seriously shopping Fedor and M-1 Global around is the question.

Now, it’s really important to realize that there are limitations to the kind of “shopping” of Fedor. For example, Strikeforce could easily sue the UFC and M-1 for tampering if they’re actively negotiating.

There is a lot to this story and it’s just a matter of attempting to figure out why M-1 says Strikeforce hasn’t honored the contract and then determining what the overall play is here. Is it an attempt to get out of the contract entirely to move to the UFC? Is this a play to get more money from a company they see as on its way out?

SB Nation will have more details as the story continues to develop.

Mousasi was smart enough to jump ship from these crooked bastards, only if Fedor would wisen up and stop doing everything they say.

well fedor owns part of m-1 so its a little different than mousasi but yes from a fans standpoint they are holding is career down bigtime and keeping him from fighting on a much more frequent basis.

M-1 is a total parasite that'll do nothing but ruin any of these companies who they want to "co-promote" with. But is it really even a true co-promotion? All I see M-1 offering to Strikeforce is them letting Fedor fight on the cards. They don't take any of the financial risks of the events, nor do they do any of the planning of the events. And honestly I doubt that M-1 would ever be allowed to get a promoters liscense in America.

And now that M-1 no longer has Affliction or Strikeforce to work with who else could they possibly work with that'll be able to pay Fedor the money he expects to get paid for a fight? I don't know if theres that many money marks out there that want to spend the kind of money that companies like Affliction, WFA, Bodog, etc. would've been willing to pay for big name fighters. Honestly outside of UFC/WEC and Strikeforce as a #2 company, it's smarter to just be a big regional promotion. For example MFC in Edmonton, they aren't the biggest company in the world but they put on solid fight cards for what they are and are able to make a profit.
