- REPORT: WEC COULD BE IN CALGARY ON JUNE 20

"We're going to go up to Canada, and we're hoping to do that in the next few months," WEC general manager Reed Harris said recently on MMAWeekly Radio.

Well, it looks like a few months has been narrowed down to June 20, at least according to an article by TopMMANews.com. The report cites Calgary Combative Sports Commission chairperson Shirley Stunzi as confirming that WEC has “officially booked” the date in Calgary, Alberta.

World Extreme Cagefighting already has two events booked prior to June. The promotion landed in Columbus, Ohio, this week for its first event in the Buckeye State. Bantamweight champion Brian Bowles will attempt to defend his title from Dominick Cruz in the main event.

Then in April, the WEC marks another first, making its pay-per-view debut. A featherweight title bout between current champion Jose Aldo and former champion Urijah Faber heads the card at the Arco Arena in San Jose, Calif., the promotion’s most successful location.

The UFC, WEC’s sister promotion, has already paved the way for its younger sibling, returning in May for the third straight year in Montreal. The promotion also has plans to run an event in Vancouver a week prior to the WEC’s purported Calgary date, although a recent report about slow moving regulation in Vancouver may have put that event in jeopardy.

WEC officials were not available for comment at the time of publication. Follow MMAWeekly.com for more details as they become available.
